iTheater Portable Video Glasses - The Portable Theater

Have you ever dreamt of a home theater that is just yours and stays just in front of your eyes? Then your dream has come true, thanks to the iTheater video glasses. Yes, I said glasses and they only weigh 3 ounces.

The iTheater video glasses is a personal entertainment center that you wear as if they were glasses. You get great video and audio quality, too. The video is at a 230,000 pixel resolution and the audio is surround sound.

There’s really no limit as to what you can watch, either. The included RCA cables allow you to hook up your game consoles, DVD players, computers, iPod (video), or other video playing players. Imagine playing your games or watching your DVDs on a 50 inch screen.

Wondering how this awesome theater will be powered on the go? The iTheater comes with a portable power source, along with two AA batteries that will run for about 6 – 8 hours of viewing. Even if the power runs out, just pop two more batteries in and you’re good to go, you don’t need to worry about having a power outlet handy.

The only downside about the iTheater is how weird you’d look in public using these, even on an airplane. Still, the portability is awesome and if you want a portable, but high quality way to watch your DVDs or play your games, this is a great choice.

The iTheater video glasses are available for $100. They’ll make you shell out an additional $30 to get the iTheater iPod connector and another $20 for the AC adapter.

Nikon D3x Digital SLR Camera Review

The all new treat for Photographers is the Nikon D3X. The Nikon D3X is a 24.5-megapixel FX-format (35.9 x 24.0mm) CMOS sensor digital SLR camera. The Nikon D3X Digital SLR Camera features Nikon EXPEED image processing technologies, ISO 50-6400, Two Live View shooting modes, 5 fps at full FX-format resolution continuous shooting, 51-point AF system, 3D Color Matrix Metering II with Scene Recognition System, 100% viewfinder coverage, Rugged, durable and precise magnesium-alloy construction, Dual CF card slots with overflow, backup and copy options, Up to 4,400 images per battery charge, and 3-inch super-density 920,000-dot VGA LCD monitor.

All these loads of features make it the right mate for a passionate Photographer. he body, controls, user interface and also a large proportion of the camera's electronic and mechanical innards have been carried over directly from the D3. The camera's core component, however, is brand new. The 36 x 23.9 mm CMOS sensor provides a resolution of 24.5 megapixels, and while this is - compared to the D3 - a massive jump in resolution, D3X users have to accept a smaller range of sensitivity (ISO 100 to 1600, extendable to ISO 50 to 6400) and slower continuous shooting of five frames per second (7 fps in DX mode) in return. While the only other piece of news - the 'Extra High' setting for Active D-Lighting - won't make much difference for most users, the premium that Nikon is charging for the extra resolution most certainly will. For $8000 retail price you can bag yourself almost two D3s. The D3X is also roughly $1500 more expensive than its only real competitor in terms of specification and features, the Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III.

Features Of Nikon D3X Digital SLR Camera:
  • 24.5 megapixel Full-Frame (36 x 24 mm) sensor
  • ISO 100 - 1600 (ISO 50 - 6400 in Boost mode)
  • Also supports DX lenses, viewfinder automatically masks (10.5 megapixels with DX lens)
  • 14-bit A/D conversion, 12 channel readout
  • Gapless micro lens array and on-chip noise reduction
  • Nikon EXPEED image processor (Capture NX processing and NR algorithms, optimized for D3X, lower power)
  • Super fast operation (power-up 12 ms, shutter lag 41 ms, black-out 74 ms)
  • Kevlar / carbon fibre composite shutter with 300,000 exposure durability
  • Multi-CAM3500FX Auto Focus sensor (51-point, 15 cross-type, more vertical coverage)
  • Auto-focus tracking by color (using information from 1005-pixel AE sensor)
  • Auto-focus calibration (fine-tuning) available (fixed body or up to 20 separate lens settings)
  • Scene Recognition System (uses AE sensor, AF sensor)
  • Seven frames per second in continuous and DX mode
  • Dual Compact Flash card slots (overflow, back-up, RAW on 1 / JPEG on 2, copy)
  • Compact Flash UDMA support
  • 3.0" 922,000 pixel LCD monitor
  • Live View with either phase detect (mirror up/down) or contrast detect Auto Focus
  • Virtual horizon indicates if camera is level (like an aircraft cockpit display)
  • HDMI HD video output
  • 'Active D-Lighting' with new 'Extra High' setting (adjusts metering as well as applying D-Lighting curve)
  • Detailed 'Control Panel' type display on LCD monitor, changes color in darkness
  • Buttons sealed against moisture
  • Dual battery charger as standard

In a nutshell, The NIkon D3x is a stunning camera that pushes the boundaries of DSLR performance to a new level. It isn’t perfect, though, in particular, the omission of any form of built-in dust control is a major disappointment.

The TV’s pose A Razor slim design that complements with aesthetic beauty and mega clarity.The efficiency of LED TV’s are higher than LCD’s.

What is LED All About?
LCD technology had its own share of problems - such as ghosting effects being caused due to the response delay that an LCD screen inherently has, and also the colour reproduct (especially black colour) was poor in early generation LCD TVs. LED TV use low electricity, contain no mercury and are made of environment-friendly products. It is based on a new technology, which uses LED (light emitting diodes) in the panels as against LCD TVs, which uses normal liquid crystal display technology.The use of LED technology enables Samsung’s LED TVs to be 70 percent slimmer and consumes less than 40 per cent of the power consumed by conventional LCD TVs.
Advantages Of LED.
The latest LED technology that Samsung is using has many advantages. For starters, these new TVs have a jaw-dropping width of 3cm only. See this image on the right? That’s the width of these TVs. Zune Mp3 Player

Zune is Microsoft's stepping stone into the Mp3 players world. Zune has a 3inch LCD video screen, wireless music sharing and a build in FM radio. Well, there are not many surprises in Zune but as the player is built by Microsoft, many people will surely buy it. The basic model launched is of 30GB HDD with video playback feature inbuilt. The screen resolution is QVGA and the codec support is quite good. It supports h.264, MP3, AAC and WMA. The wireless Zune to Zune sharing is an exciting feature in Zune and works pretty well. Some extra inbuilt features such as sharing playlists and photos with your friends.

Zune is available in three colors, Black, Brown and White.

Detailed Specifications Of Zune:

* 4.4 in. x 2.4 in. x 0.6 in. (h x w x d)
* Weight: 5.6 ounces
* Music up to 14 hours (wireless off), up to 13 hours (wireless on); pictures, up * to 4 hours; video, up to 4 hours
* Charge Time: 3 hours; 2 hours to 90%
* 3.0 inch display
* 320×240 pixels.
It can also play usual un-protected content (MP3, AAC), but also play only protected content from Microsoft new Zune Marketplace.

Some disadvantages with Zune are that it is not compatible with previous Windows Media Player based music stores like Napster, and also it not compatible with Macs. If you consider the 80GB HDD Zune player, obviously the cost rises but has no warranty from Microsoft. It has the same dimension as the 30GB Zune. But the point is that the 80GB players are not sold out in retail stores. Well there might be some answers to the question.

A protective metal casing must be removed from inside the Zune to install the thicker 80GB drive. This casing shields the drive against crushing forces that may occur when the drive is stepped on, sat on, or otherwise abused. The Zune design team may have felt removing this piece would jeopardize the structural integrity of the player. On the other hand, perhaps they kept the drive small to allow for a lower price point and a future development path for a larger capacity Zune 2.0 device. Around 7000 songs can be added in the 30GB Zune but movies takes lot of space than MP3’s. A 30GB Zune may hold around 25 full length movies at best. In the 80GB player, around 70 full length movies can be added.

Robotic Arm Washes Dishes

The University of Tokyo is developing a series of robots that perform housekeeping chores such as washing dishes and doing laundry. A video showing one of the University’s robots washing and stacking dishes recently popped up on YouTube.

According to a Reuters news item, the prototype dishwashing robot is part of a series of housekeeping robot designs developed in association with Panasonic. The University hopes to see products based on its designs begin showing up in consumers’ homes in about five years.
The University’s prototype dishwashing robot’s hand is equipped with 18 sensors of five different types, Reuters reports.

The following Japanese-language video shows the robot carefully picking up, rinsing, and stacking dishes in a dishwasher.

The robot’s developers currently are focused on making the robot smaller, lighter, and faster, with a goal of having it “put away dishes in five minutes after a family of four has finished dinner,” Reuters reports. Another design in the series picks up clothes, puts them in a washing machine, and operates the driver on its own.

The series of housekeeping robots appears to be a project of the University of Tokyo Graduate School of Information Science and Technology’s Mechano-Informatics department.

Robotic hand operated by compressed air

The Robotics and Mechanisms Laboratory (RoMeLa) of the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech has developed a unique robotic hand that can firmly hold objects as heavy as a can of food or as delicate as a raw egg, while dexterous enough to gesture for sign language.

Named RAPHaEL (Robotic Air Powered Hand with Elastic Ligaments), the fully articulated robotic hand is powered by a compressor air tank at 60 psi and a novel accordion type tube actuator. Microcontroller commands operate the movement to coordinate the motion of the fingers. “This air-powered design is what makes the hand unique, as it does not require the use of any motors or other actuators, the grasping force and compliance can be easily adjusted by simply changing the air pressure,” said Dennis Hong, RoMeLa and the faculty adviser on the project. RoMeLa is part of Virginia Tech's department of mechanical engineering (ME).

The grip derives from the extent of pressure of the air. A low pressure is used for a lighter grip, while a higher pressure allows for a sturdier grip. The compliance of compressed air also aids in the grasping as the fingers can naturally follow the contour of the grasped object.

“There would be great market potential for this hand, such as for robotic prosthetics, due to the previously described benefits, as well as low cost, safety and simplicity,” Hong said. The concept has won RoMeLa first place in the recent 2008-2009 Compressed Air and Gas Institute (CAGI)'s Innovation Award Contest, with team members sharing $2,500 and the College of Engineering receiving a separate $8,000 monetary award.

The $10,500 prize was announced in April by the Cleveland, Ohio-based CAGI, an industry organization. The design competition was an invitation-only program, with projects overviews — including written reports and video — being sent to the judging panel. Teams from Virginia Tech, the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Buffalo State College each submitted entries on their air-powered designs for judging. Six teams in all participated, according to Hong.

It is the second year in a row that RoMeLa has won first place in the CAGI competition. A judge on the panel said of the robotic hand, “It is a cutting edge concept, and the engineering was no less than brilliant.”

RAPHaEL is just part of a larger RoMeLa project: The humanoid robot known as CHARLI (Cognitive Humanoid Robot with Learning Intelligence). The hand already is on its second prototype design, with the newer model to be used by CHARLI. Once the newer model hand is connected to the larger body, it will be able to pick up — not just grasp and hold — objects as would a person.

Hong has said CHARLI is the first full-sized bipedal walking humanoid robot to be built entirely in the United States. The 5-foot tall robot will be used as a general humanoid research platform as well as for the RoboCup Humanoid Teen size league for RoboCup 2010.
