Sony Walkman NWZ-W202

Music Rocks! Rock Music rocks the most. So its rocking time for all music lovers as Sony has launched a new walkman series, the "W-Series".

Sony is starting a new range of Walkman players, the W-series, and the first of them, the W202 has landed recently. This attractive player has been primarily designed for those who like to listen to their music while exercising, and hence features a unique wireless, behind the neck type of design that rests on your ears. This gives you the freedom of going about your activities without having to worry about the player in your pocket or wires coming in your way. It also features the new Zappin feature that lets you listen to few seconds of a song for you to identify it.

The Sony NWZ-W202 is no headset. It is a full-fledged MP3 player built-into that small frame, which is hardly bigger than the S9. On the right speaker unit are the controls for the player. This includes a jog dial for going to the next and previous track. Pressing the jog dial briefly pauses the music. A long press on the jog dial activates the Zappin feature. Beside the dial are the volume control keys and next to them is the miniUSB port for connecting to the stand.

On the back of the right speaker is the switch for Shuffle mode. There is also a small LED light for showing the player and battery status. A small reset button also resides close by.To switch off the player the two units need to be connected to each other. The speakers stick together with the help of magnets. There is a white LED that blinks when the speakers are connected. It also blinks when the player is connected to PC and charging or transferring data. One of the best parts about the W202 is that Sony has used their high quality EX Series speakers. They promise excellent audio quality and isolation from the surrounding noise. The player is very light, which is good since it will be resting on your ears. Figuring out how to wear the player is difficult at first. You have to hold them with the speakers facing you, then open the player, take it behind your neck and then slip the speakers in your ears. The design is supposed to be sweat resistant, however it is not splash or dust resistant, so you cannot wear it in the rains.
The Sony NWZ-W202 has a very simple control and navigation system. The jog dial lets you skip to the next or previous song. While running, one is not likely to be subtle with the controls, so Sony has made it such that you need to give the dial a nice strong whirl to register an input. Pressing the dial pauses or plays the music. The volume controls are next to the dial. The volume controls have raised push points, the Volume - has a small point and the Volume + has a taller point. This lets you know by touch which button you are pressing, even though you cannot see the buttons while wearing the player.

Available in a range of five different colours, the W202 doesn’t have earphone wires that tangle over each other and it is highly flexible and by that we mean that the position of its earphones are not fixed liked those of Oakley’s sunglasses, fitting heads of all shapes and sizes!
Giving the final word, the Sony NWZ-W202 is an excellent device for those who want something to accompany them on their gym sessions. It has an attractive design, simple controls, good audio quality and the battery life is superb for such a small device. The Zappin feature is good for identifying a song but it could have been far better. I hope they add playlist support in v2.0 of this feature. Priced at Rs. 4,990 (M.R.P.) the W202 is a bit on the expensive side, especially when you consider the memory capacity available. But when you consider the pros and the fact that you don't really need more than 2 GB for gym usage, then the W202 would seem as a much better buy, which it is.

Archos 3 MP3 Player

Archos has presented the Archos 3, a new portable media player. The ARCHOS 3 vision is the latest in a new line of MP3 players, with an impressive 3” tactile screen that covers the whole surface of the device. You can access all your favorite features with the brand new virtual wheel selector, which provides a whole new browsing sensation. No matter where you are in the media library your favorite feature is only a spin away.

The Archos 3 vision is extremely compact and lightweight and will easily fit in pretty much any kind of pocket. Yet it’s so pretty you may want to show it off instead of hiding it there.

Compared to the successors Archos 5 and Archos 7, this version Archos 3 is less complicated on the interface factor. The Archos 3 also provides you with an integrated FM tuner, digital clock and audio recorder to record voices to its 8GB storage.

The revolutionary feature incorporated into Archos 3 Mp3 Player is the “virtual wheel” selector which supposedly makes navigating straightforward. It’s unclear whether the wheel is an on-screen thing, perhaps a translucent overlay, or involves what looks to be a touch-sensitive button on the lower front panel. Finally coming to the quintessential factor - storage, Archos 3 MP3 Player provides a storage of 8 GB that can store up to 4000 songs. The battery life is said to be 4 hours and it is said that the player will be priced around 100$.

Zune Mp3 Player

Zune is Microsoft's stepping stone into the Mp3 players world. Zune has a 3inch LCD video screen, wireless music sharing and a build in FM radio. Well, there are not many surprises in Zune but as the player is built by Microsoft, many people will surely buy it. The basic model launched is of 30GB HDD with video playback feature inbuilt. The screen resolution is QVGA and the codec support is quite good. It supports h.264, MP3, AAC and WMA. The wireless Zune to Zune sharing is an exciting feature in Zune and works pretty well. Some extra inbuilt features such as sharing playlists and photos with your friends.

Zune is available in three colors, Black, Brown and White.

Detailed Specifications Of Zune:

* 4.4 in. x 2.4 in. x 0.6 in. (h x w x d)
* Weight: 5.6 ounces
* Music up to 14 hours (wireless off), up to 13 hours (wireless on); pictures, up * to 4 hours; video, up to 4 hours
* Charge Time: 3 hours; 2 hours to 90%
* 3.0 inch display
* 320×240 pixels.
It can also play usual un-protected content (MP3, AAC), but also play only protected content from Microsoft new Zune Marketplace.

Some disadvantages with Zune are that it is not compatible with previous Windows Media Player based music stores like Napster, and also it not compatible with Macs. If you consider the 80GB HDD Zune player, obviously the cost rises but has no warranty from Microsoft. It has the same dimension as the 30GB Zune. But the point is that the 80GB players are not sold out in retail stores. Well there might be some answers to the question.

A protective metal casing must be removed from inside the Zune to install the thicker 80GB drive. This casing shields the drive against crushing forces that may occur when the drive is stepped on, sat on, or otherwise abused. The Zune design team may have felt removing this piece would jeopardize the structural integrity of the player. On the other hand, perhaps they kept the drive small to allow for a lower price point and a future development path for a larger capacity Zune 2.0 device. Around 7000 songs can be added in the 30GB Zune but movies takes lot of space than MP3’s. A 30GB Zune may hold around 25 full length movies at best. In the 80GB player, around 70 full length movies can be added.

USB Moo Cow MP3 Player

The USB Moo Cow MP3 Player is an addition to the list of geeky Mp3 players. Developed by brando, the USB Moo Cow MP3 Player is shaped like a cow and functions just like all other Mp3 players.

The USB Moo Cow MP3 Player comes with 4GB of storage, and has a built in rechargeable battery, it will play back MP3 files and it measures 36 x 50 x 14mm and weighs just 14g. Though its unique looks and geeky design make it stand apart, the USB Moo Cow MP3 Player misses the usual qualities expected out of an MP3 player.
It’s kind of the redneck version of owning a shuffle, only without that useful clip. It has no screen either, so you don’t even get that extra perk. All around it’s likely that the only people that would be excited about this MP3 player are the ones that are strangely obsessive about everything that happens to have a cow theme.

The USB Moo Cow MP3 Player comes in a choice of colours, including, blue, pink and white, it is avaibale for $30.

SanDisk Sansa slot Mp3 Player

The latest release from SanDisk - The Sansa slot music player is a unique music player. SanDisk has made its come back in the MP3 player game with its latest offering, the Sansa slotMusic player. The uniqueness of the player is in the manner it stores the music. Unlike other mp3 players which have an inbuilt storage space, SanDisk Sansa mp3 player comes with micro SD cards. The slotMusic Player plays microSD cards which you can fill yourself or you can purchase with DRM-free albums pre-loaded. Thereby, the Sansa slotMusic player does not require a computer in order to transfer music. You can just purchase the slotMusic albums on MicroSD cards, pop them into the player and away you go.It is a unique idea that combines the old-fashioned “buying a record or CD” with the new iPod-like way of listening to music.

The player is cigarette lighter sized, with a plastic cover and aluminum body. On the long edge, you find the Play/Pause button (which doubles as a power toggle button when held down for several seconds), flanked by next and previous track buttons. A small status LED is also located on this side of the player. On the top, you’ll find the volume adjustment buttons and a standard sized stereo earbud jack. The fact that the player uses a single AAA battery is remarkable. So you can just buy a pair of rechargable batteries and swap them out as needed after about 15 hours of playback without worrying about having to buy an expensive proprietary battery.
When it comes to performance, the player performs the same as other music players out there. The buttons are easy to press and have good tactile feedback. The only “problem” with this player should be obvious - it doesn’t have a display… That may or may not be a concern for some people. The other issue is that there isn’t a way to shuffle the music or find a specific track. For that fact, if you copy more music to the card, you have to use the prev and next tracks to find specific songs.
Sansa is finally making some good moves in a tough music player market. The player is a real revolution in the mp3 player world and is a twist in the mp3 player game. Europe and the rest of the world will have to wait until 2009 to see a shadow of the slotMusic Player.

The New iPod Shuffle...It Can talk

Apple has launched the next generation of its smallest music player, the iPod Shuffle. And it comes with some exciting new features.

features_hero_20090311

Its smaller than ever. At 1.8" tall and 0.3" thin, its the smallest iPod ever. To make the iPod Shuffle small, the controls have been moved to the earbud chord.

Revamped Controls. The controls are now located on the right earbud chord like many mobile phones. This makes the iPodShuffle even more convenient to use. You can navigate your music — and activate the VoiceOver feature — without taking your eyes off your run, your ride, or whatever you’re doing.

Bigger Storage. Now with 4GB of storage space, you have plenty of room to store hours and hours of music — up to 1,000 songs. With room for multiple playlists, too.

It can Speak. Yes it can, thanks to an exciting new feature called VoiceOver. Say you’re listening to a song and want to know the title or the artist. With the press of a button, VoiceOver tells you as the music dips down. It even announces the names of your playlists. And when your battery needs charging, VoiceOver tells you that, too. It also speaks over 14 different languages, So it can tell you song titles and artists in the correct languages.

Multiple Playlists. Now you can have multiple playlists in your iPod, so you can listens to songs depending on your mood. It can also tell you the name of the playlist. So its easy to swith between them and find the one you want without looking.
