E3: New Sony PS3 motion controller

Soon after Microsoft's announcement of its new technology - the controller-free control system called Project Natal, Sony has announced its rivalry gadget, the new "Motion Controller for Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3)". The Motion Controller for PS3 works in a similar way to Nintendo’s Wii controller.

There is a sensor that sits on top of the TV and detects the position, distance and movement of two controllers held in a user’s hand, which sound strongly similar to the functionality of Wii motes in Nintendo Wii. The device can measure where the controllers are in relation to each other and how close they are to the sensor, aiming to create a true 3D movement within a game.

Sony PlayStation Controller is also capable for, enabling users to wield weapons, fire a bow and arrow, write on screen and manipulate objects in a virtual environment. The new Motion Controller will be available from spring 2010.
